Happy belated Halloween!!
Time flew very fast this month. I was able to spend some of it at home, trying to reduce my screen time and develop a routine where I create more than I consume. It’s been interesting and difficult, but I’m excited to continue!
(I also spent a week of it being sick…)
I am now officially a year older and I’ve been lucky enough to spend this first week of 24 with my partner, my friends, and art/music/delicious food (taking a solo date to The MET for the first time was a highlight). Although I don’t feel much different, I have felt noticeably grateful and connected recently, which, amidst the weight of they way things just…are…in general, in the world, I forget to feel very often.
𝙲𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐:
Big creative month but not for “finished work.” I’ve been trying new routines for creating, trying to curb my addiction to screen time, and have been doing lots of studies to get myself back on track. Things I’ve done in this time include charcoal warm-ups, watercolor practice, graphite warm-ups/studies, and painting studies. Outside of visual arts I’ve also been studying select poems, taking a poetry course, and doing writing experiments. Here are some shots of the work:

I did a commission for Poetry Is a Team Sport’s public bathroom edition of their zine as well as a gig poster for Hudson Freeman:

A little less straight forward but, I think it counts — I’ve been decorating my apartment a bunch with new posters and little things here and there. Adding some more color and shape. I’ve had a really good time with that :)
Lastly, my long standing, first-ever little digital camera from when I was 9 is no longer with us. She was struggling for the last few years but she’s basically unusable now. So I got another cheapy one and have been feeling excited to capture moments and beautiful things once again.
Here are some of those:

(from Notes) I worry that my imagination is diminished - that the images I draw best are from exact reference, the songs I sing/perform are derivative versions of others sounds, and that the best writing I craft is a less-eloquent collage of Those I have consumed. I struggle to feel my creative thoughts are half as meaningful as the ones I take pleasure in consuming. My personal bubble teeters unrelentingly between claustrophobic, ripe to burst, and too vast to even see it’s horizon.
(this ebbs and flows for me but this description of how I feel captured it appropriately. TL;DR imposter syndrome)The only painting that gave me chills when I visited the MET, and about which I intend to write a mini essay (hint: look at that fucking bread):
